With the recent winter weather that cancelled a lot of our plans in January, coupled with the normal amount of wanderlust I experience, I’ve been daydreaming of a weekend getaway sooner rather than later. It is February after all, so it felt like a great time to share a series on romantic inns across NC that are perfect for a weekend getaway. I always considered myself a beach person, though over the last several years, I’ve definitely grown to love trips to the mountains more and more. So, with that in mind, this series starts off with romantic inns in western NC that are perfect for a weekend getaway with your partner.
5 Romantic Inns in Western NC
Lakeview at Fontana Inn

A few years ago, David and I celebrated our anniversary at Lakeview at Fontana. It was the perfect spot for relaxing and truly felt like a retreat away. The views are stunning, the spa is incredible, and the treetop soaking tub in the cabana is absolutely dreamy. Located in Bryson City, there are plenty of things to do around the inn as well.
Mast Farm Inn

We recently stayed here after years of it being on my list of places to visit and let me tell you, it lived up to my daydreams. Mast Farm Inn is located in historic Valle Crucis and a short 20 minute drive into Boone, though I was perfectly content spending my day relaxing at the inn either by curling up in front of the fire with a glass of wine or soaking in the clawfoot tub.

Old Edwards Inn has definitely been at the top of my list of places to visit for the past couple of years. It’s in Highlands, NC, which is one part of that state that I haven’t had the opportunity to explore yet. David and I are planning a visit in June to change that as part of my ongoing 100 county tour of NC and I am most looking forward to a stay here! Between the restaurant, the spa, and the mountain town, it is just gorgeous and I cannot wait to experience it!
Pilot Knob Inn

You may know that one of my very parts of North Carolina is the hidden gem of the western NC wineries. One of my favorites is JoCo Vineyards located near Pilot Mountain. While I love admiring Pilot Mountain from the distance, I’ve never hiked it, and I’ve been thinking that perhaps planning a weekend where David and I hike Pilot Mountain, check out some of the wineries and breweries in the area, and call Pilot Knob Inn our home base for the weekend would be perfect for an early spring getaway.
Switzerland Inn

Another spot in North Carolina that I have yet to explore is Little Switzerland. From everything I’ve seen and heard, it is quite charming and the Switzerland Inn is one of the places I’ve been eyeing to stay in NC for a while now.
