5 years in our current home has come and gone in the blink of an eye! It is absolutely wild to me how fast time moves the older you get, and 5 years snuck up on us quickly! Our ranch is the second home we owned together and while our first home was a great starter home for us where we learned quite a bit, our ranch has been the one that felt like home immediately. When I was preparing to write this post, I was honestly taken aback and just how much progress we have made on this space considering where it was when we first bought it.
2023 will hopefully bring some more projects, and finishing up ones that have been lingering mostly complete. Here is a recap of the projects and updates that we have completed over these 5 years!
5 Years in Our Ranch: Then & Now
How to Install a Mudroom Bench with Shiplap
One of the features in our house that had me most excited was our mudroom. I was one thing I felt our first home lacked, so I was really thrilled that we had this space. This was our first major product the first year we moved in where David added the shelving and bench plus the lantern. We had the seat cushion custom made for our window seat in our first home and it fit perfectly on the bench David built in the mudroom. Since we made these updates, I have also added this Ruggable runner in French Grey to the space. We used Rifle Paper Co. fabric and had it custom made at Window Works by Polly.
How to Install a Reclaimed Wood Wall
David and I went back east to my grandparents’ farm and salvaged some wood from a barn that was being torn down to use in our dining room. We we originally moved in, this wall was originally painted with chalkboard paint, so it brighten up the space. I love having this connection to my family’s farm in our home! We also updated the light fixture with this chandelier and this Ruggable in Sage.
Home Office Decor and Reveal
Back in 2019, David took on a summer project of renovating our home office space. Little did we know how significant those updates would be for us with the quarantine order and remote work brought on by COVID-19 in 2020. Now that I work from home the majority of time, I am so glad to have a dedicated space to work. Find our home office inspiration here and part 1 of the reveal here.
How to Renovate a Guest Bathroom on a Budget: 5 Practical Tips
One of our quarantine projects was updating our guest bathroom. While I felt like it was a little bit of putting lipstick on a pig, it has been a favorite project of our for quite a while now. We did all of the updates and decorating for under $500 and it still feels like a brand new space. Here is our inspiration board that we built for this update.
How to Add Instant Curb Appeal with Vantage Shutters
The one biggest improvement we made from the exterior aesthetic was adding Vantage shutters to the front side of the house. This was a really fun project that took little time and effort and made for a beautiful update.
Front Porch Projects
Our first house did not have a front porch and I was so excited to be able to have a space to decorate. It has gone through several iterations of how we decorate it for the seasons.
Spring Front Porch Reveal
We get our plants from Fairview Garden Center and they have offered great spring planting tips over the years. Here are three tips for getting your home spring ready!
Fall Front Porch Decor
Every year I decorate for fall, I think that that year is my favorite year of how it looks. Fairview Garden Center is our stop for all things fall as well!
10 Backyard Picnic Essentials
During the stay-at-home order, David updated our backyard with a dedicated fire pit area.
Blue and Grey Living Room Update
We updated our living room space with a sectional that took 3x and almost a year to get right. Despite all the headaches, it did end up being worth the wait. We have an open floor plan for our dining room, living room area, and kitchen, so it felt nice to finally have this space mostly done. We have this Ruggable in Abalone and a Samsung Frame TV above our mantle. Here is the inspiration that we used for planning this space!
My Dream Closet: the Big Reveal
For my Christmas present in 2021, David updated my closet with new built in shelves and racks, plus we added this stunning Rifle Paper Co. wallpaper, this light fixture, and this Ruggable area rug. Here is the inspiration article I used and here is an article highlighting all my organizational favorites.
We have quite a few Ruggables in our home and we absolutely adore them, especially with our two dogs. Use this link to get 15% off your first purchase and I’ll get 15% off my next purchase as well.
