One of my favorite foods, a type that I constantly crave, is sushi. My love for sushi started approximately 10 years ago, when I began a weekly tradition of sushi therapy with my bff, ANB. She and I would meet at the Tasu in Brier Creek and catch up, discuss our random musings, and eat too much sushi. Since she has moved to California, I have been missing my sushi therapy partner, but I do still enjoy sushi nights. Here are the 6 best sushi places in Raleigh!
City Market Sushi is the newest sushi place on my list of favorites. City Market is really convenient from our home, and it has such pretty ambiance. The sushi is unique and delicious, and I also really enjoy their starter menu as well. I had their soft shell crab sliders and they were yummy.
Order: Softshell crab sliders, crispy pork belly, Mad Salmon roll (and next time I’ll order the ultimate rainbow roll)
I think most people associate Kanki with their hibachi meals and the amazing show that their chefs put on every night. Their sushi selection is a great way to start that experience! David and I really enjoy having a date night here. Fun fact, David had never been to a restaurant like this until our honeymoon, and when he learned Kanki has the show and the food selection that he loved, it quickly became a favorite date night spot for us!
Order: Spider Roll & Krazy Train Roll (and then of course order hibachi chicken for an entree)
I love the location of Mura and it is great for lunch if you’re shopping in North Hills, or for a girls’ night dinner. We went here for dinner for my friend Hillary’s 30th birthday and we had excellent service and great recommendations from the menu. I recently recommended Mura to my friend Kayte and she raved about it.
Order: Rainbow Roll & Carolina Roll
Sono was one of the first downtown Raleigh restaurants I dined at when I moved to here after college. The location is great for a pre-concert dinner if you’re seeing something at Red Hat, or want a place where you can have dinner and then check out other events in downtown, like First Friday. They have a great overall menu as well, but their sushi is definitely my favorite part of their menu.
Order: Piano Roll & Spider Roll
Sushi Blues is such a unique restaurant on Glenwood South. It is such a laid back atmosphere and the blues focus is really fun for the location. I like to meet my girlfriends here for sushi before heading to one of the bars on Glenwood for an after-dinner drink. They do an awesome buy one get one free dine in special!
Order: Marilyn Monroe Roll & Bourbon Street Oyster Roll
Tasu is the OG of my sushi experience, so of course it is one of my favorites. There is a location right near my office, so it’s a favorite lunch spot for me these days. Their buy-one-get-one sushi is hands down the best in Raleigh.
Order: Crazy Roll, Nemo Roll, North Carolina Sunset Roll, Wasabi Roll
