Each year, David and I look forward to decorating both the interiors and exterior of our home for the holidays. See our holiday home tours from years past here. I dare say that we were most excited about decorating this year after a dismal, chaotic year of uncertainty and quarantine. Honestly, there is nothing more peaceful to me than having a quiet cup of coffee in front the tree before starting my day and ending it with a cup of tea, a fire, and the twinkle lights. One of my favorite things to do is add unique ornaments to our tree each year. We typically add ornaments from places that we have visited through the year to our tree. However, since our trips were cancelled because of COVID, we reminisced about our prior travels and opted to add some unique Christmas ornaments to our tree this year. Today, I’m sharing a few of our favorite ornaments we used to deck the halls this year!

Home Office: Empowerment Tree
Since I’m working from home right now, I decided to have a special Women’s Empowerment Tree in the home office. This tree has some of my favorite leaders on it and I added my votes for women pennant as the tree topper. Below you’ll find my favorite ornaments and where to buy!
Dolly Parton and Notorious RBG

Main Living Space: Main Tree
Last year, David and I opted to invest in an artificial tree for our main living space. We bought ours from Balsam Hill after Christmas in 2018 when there is a sale on these beautiful trees. We’ve been really pleased with the quality of the tree and would highly recommend. For every trip we go on, we buy an ornament to commemorate the trip. This year with our cancelled trips, we had a great time reminiscing about our previous trips. We also took this time to enjoy some of our more personalized ornaments. Here are some of our favorites.
Moravian Star (gifted, similar)
I received this ornament on a trip to Winston-Salem a couple of holiday seasons ago. For more on the history of the Moravian Star and its significance in North Carolina, read this article.
Because David is an artist, I decided to pick this up for him this year!

Pepperoni Pizza (gifted, similar)
City Ornaments
I adore this Old World Christmas city ornaments. We have one from every city we’ve visited and these ornaments are perfect because they highlight the landmarks. These would make a great gift idea as well!
