I’ve been trying to put into words the adoration I

I’ve been trying to put into words the adoration I have for Dolly Parton, and the tributes and memories flooding my feed keep bringing me to tears just when I think I’ve stopped crying.
Her musical talent, especially her songwriting, was extraordinary. Her philanthropy and its impact will ripple on for far longer than we know, and I love her for all of it. I was thrilled to get the Moderna vaccine knowing she helped fund the research — so thrilled I wore sequins for my second shot. Her Imagination Library brings me to tears, both for why she started it (in honor of her dad) and for how many children it’s touched. Her Buddy Program helped lower the dropout rate in her home county, and I love her commitment to where she was from.
What I loved most about her, though, was her authenticity. She was undeniably, unapologetically herself. She didn’t take herself too seriously. She worked hard and had a good time doing it. I loved her sparkle, her infectious laugh, and the way she constantly showed love to others while encouraging them to be their authentic selves too. She listened, and she adjusted her shows to be more inclusive. She embodied the version of Christianity I believe in.
Dolly remains my Capricorn Queen Mother — my inspiration to keep showing up as my authentic self, to encourage others to do the same, and to be kind and generous, always. 🦋 Rest in power.
