Back in 2020, I rounded up the best dog toys on Amazon after realizing some of the most popular stories I posted over on Instagram was about Gizmo’s obsession with squeaky dog toys. David and I always adored how much he loved a toy and how carefully he took care of them. Winston eventually stopped tearing toys apart too — it was almost like he understood how much Gizmo’s toys meant to him. When we left for work, we would toss their toys around the house and ask Gizmo to “clean up,” which meant he would gather every single one into a tidy little pile on the floor. It was ridiculously adorable and gave him something fun to do while we were away during the day.

While we have sadly lost both Gizmo and Winston since this post first went up, Gizmo’s love of a good squeaky toy lives on. These days, toy-testing duty belongs to our almost-3-year-old Chocolate Lab/Boykin Spaniel mix, Ruthie B, who is just as enthusiastic a critic of a good toy as Gizmo ever was. This three pack of crinkle toys was a crowd favorite for both Winston & Gizmo, and Ruthie is really into them as well.

David got Gizmo a shark toy for Christmas and he has really enjoyed the shape of this one. It stands up well to doggie tug of war and is a great option for more destructive pups.

Gizmo got a llama toy as a birthday gift one year and it was one of his favorites. This one is really darn cute!

I always brought Gizmo a new toy home when I traveled, so I picked him up a doggie La Croix in David’s favorite flavor. Ruthie is not quite as gentle with toys as Gizmo was, so we got her this “variety pack” for a bit of a brain game component with her.

All of our pups have loved their Kong toys. Our pro-tip is to fill with a few Charlee bears and peanut butter, freeze, and then give them to enjoy. We have gotten Ruthie some of their plush toys and they hold up extremely well.

Gizmo’s hedgehog was hands-down his favorite toy, and we always kept a couple of backups on hand just in case. Ruthie has since adopted one of her own.

The newest toy in Ruthie B’s toy box — this one is hard to destroy, even for a destructive chewer like she can be. Bonus points for how adorable it is.

This list has been updated for 2026 to reflect where things stand around the ranch these days. Since I first shared it, we have lost both Gizmo and Winston, but Gizmo’s love of a good squeaky toy is why I came back to update this post — and why our newest pup, Ruthie, has taken over toy-testing duty without missing a beat. A few of the original favorites are still in heavy rotation here, and I have kept the picks that have truly stood the test of time (and chewing).
If your dog destroys toys faster than you can order them, the Kong and Mac the Shark are still your best bet.
