May is North Carolina Wine Month, and what better time to order wine to be delivered to your home and celebrate some of North Carolina’s agriculture! I celebrated my birthday last year by visiting some of the wineries on the Yadkin Valley Wine Trail and highly recommend this experience when all of North Carolina is open and you feel safe and well to travel. While we are still facing uncertainty because of COVID-19, you can still sample the best of NC wines at home. Keep scrolling for ways to celebrate North Carolina wines during NC Wine Month, or any month!
Celebrate North Carolina Wine during NC Wine Month
Take a Road Trip for Curbside Delivery
Make plans to take a road trip to do curbside delivery for NC wines–just call in advance to see their availability and hours, schedule your pickup, and make the drive. I highly recommend taking the long way for a more scenic route and a way to see what else you can add to your NC bucket list for when things open up.
Plan a Picnic
Consider packing a picnic, or getting take out, from one of the wineries and having a socially distant picnic in the wine trails. Or, bring your wine home and have a picnic in your yard. Some of the NC wineries sell their wines in Total Wine and Lowe’s Foods, so you could skip the drive, grab a bottle or two from there, and have your own wine tasting party in the backyard. You can also order your wines to be delivered right to your front door–see a round up here.
Host a Wine Tasting
I have done this and had a great time, so how do we do that now with social distancing? Consider hosting a Google Meet happy hour where you and your friends sample your NC wines from the comfort of your homes. Or have a small, outdoor gathering for taste various wines. I’m picturing how to do this on our front porch in the future!
Join a Wine Club
If you are able to, now is a great time to support local businesses, and supporting North Carolina agriculture is always a goal of mine. So, join a wine club! Many of the NC wineries offer these options and will deliver wine straight to your door each month.
Be sure to tell me in the comments your favorite NC winery so I can add it to my bucket list! Take care and stay safe!
