It feels impossible for me to fathom that we are heading into Thanksgiving week and zooming into the end of the year. October is typically my favorite month, though I admittedly had a pretty short attention span given the election cycle. I tried a new skincare product to help with the healing of my Moh’s surgery that I am really pleased with, a new body lotion perfect for the holidays, and a similar dress to one that sold out quickly. Scroll below for the 5 things I tried & loved in October 2024.

5 Things I Tried & Loved in October 2024
IGK Disco Disco Gloss Shine Hair Spray

I am constantly searching for shine sprays to use on my hair because it gets rather dull in between my hair color appointments. IGK products do really well on my hair texture, and this shine spray has been a fun one to use. Bonus because it smells so good.
Two other favorite IGK hair products are the Antisocial Leave-In Dry Hair Mask and Thirsty Girl Coconut Milk Anti-Frizz Leave-In Conditioner. For more on products I use to style my hair, check out this post.
Tuckernuck Black Velvet Dress

While this is not the exact dress in the collage, it is the same brand and a similar cut to this one. I wore this to an outdoor wedding last month and it sold out quickly. Keep a look out on Tuckernuck for if/when it comes back in stock. It is quite a lovely cut and it comes in two different colors/fabrics when in stock. I paired this dress with my favorite Loeffler Randall heels and a pair of statement earrings.
Rifle Paper Co. 2025 Travel Sketches Wall Calendar

Every year, I get myself a Rifle Paper Co. wall calendar for my office and this travel sketch one for 2025 is SO cute. It makes a great gift idea. I also always get a 12-month appointment calendar to keep on the side of our refrigerator so that we can easily see what we have each week. Their annual planner and notepads are also items from Rifle Paper that I constantly keep handy.
Hydrinity Restorative Kit

My friend, Gretta, from over at Raleigh’s Amelia Aesthetics, sent me this kit to try as my skin is healing from my Moh’s surgery last month. This product has not only been helpful on my scar, but also for my naturally dry skin. I will definitely be repurchasing to keep in my skin care rotation after I run out.
Aveeno Stress Relief Moisturizing Lotion

I have tried all types of body lotions over the years, and the one that I find hydrates my skin the best in the cooler months is Aveeno. This one with the lavender scent is lovely and perfect post-evening showers. I do use this Nécessaire Vitamin C body serum for a brightening, hydrating experience for a little extra indulgence.
As a housekeeping note, my November edition of this monthly article will be the last on I’m Fixin’ To. I’ll be transitioning that series to my newsletter series each month. I switched my newsletter to Substack for Q4 and would love for you to follow along with me there as well!
