David and I have been in our new house for a little over a year now, and we are so excited to finally have our last room furnished. Â David’s parents and sister are coming to visit from Buffalo this weekend, so we are ready for them now! Â Here are five ways to prepare a guest room for visitors.
Scented Candle or Diffuser
I am pretty sensitive to fragrance, so I like to bring in light fragrances. Â I love this diffuser and have a couple throughout our house, but I also love Simply Curated candles, especially the sea salt and peony fragrance. Â I like to have candles lit with guests arrive, and I try to remember to leave matches or a candle torch so they can light if they’d like later.
Fluffy Bath Towels
Fluffy bath towels are one of my favorite parts about staying at a hotel. Â After trying several brands of towels, David and I love Pottery Barn for their quality. Â I bought a few towel sets to keep in our guest rooms so they wouldn’t get mixed in with the towels that we use daily.
Toiletries
I put out some of my favorite brand products for guests including shampoo, conditioner, soap, face wash, toothpaste, and hand cream. Â We also keep extra toothbrushes under the vanity in the guest bathroom and extra hair ties and bobby pins
Extra Blankets & Pillows
I had these pillows made out of my favorite Rifle Paper Co. fabric for our bedrooms in the house.  You’ve also seen this fabric on our mudroom bench.  I also leave out extra blankets and have a couple of extra pillows stored in the closets at varying degrees of softness so our guests can choose which they’d like to use.
WiFi Passcode
I have our WiFi passcode posted on Letterfolk boards in our guest bedrooms. Â I always appreciate when people let their guests know what the code is, that way I don’t feel awkward asking.
Other items of importance that we incorporate into our guest rooms are clocks, cell phone chargers, and something to read, whether it is a local magazine or a North Carolina themed book. Â I also like to have fresh flowers out as well.
