A few months ago, I was scrolling Instagram and came across the most fabulous coffee shop I’d ever seen. I was thrilled to see that it was located close by, in Winston-Salem, which is one of my favorite cities in my home state. So, I asked Glory if she was up for a road trip and we headed west to have lunch at the Powder Room. Located within walking distance from downtown, Anne Rainey Rokahr has brought a fun, vibey coffee shop. They have a great wine list, a fun selection of cocktails, delicious breakfast and lunch offerings. And a welcoming environment right on Burke Street.
NC Hidden Gem: the Powder Room in Winston-Salem
Pulling up to the Powder Room, you are greeted with neon signs welcoming you in. Gwendolyn, the beverage and service manager, will likely be the one to greet you. She makes one heck of a cocktail, offers great wine recommendations, and is the nicest human on top of it all. We met up with Angie, the Director of Marketing for the Powder Room, the Snob Shop, and Trouvaille Home, for lunch and to learn more about the businesses. For cocktails, Glory had an espresso martini, Angie had a Cabana Boy, and I ordered the Violet, you’re turning Violet. Glory and I also ordered the lavender lemonade, which is a staple at the Powder Room.
What We Ordered
For our lunch, we started with chickpea hummus, which is made in-house, to share at the table. For lunch entrees, Glory had the curried egg salad sammie. Angie had the cashew chicken salad, and I had the chicken and orzo salad. I would highly recommend any of these dishes! They were so light and refreshing and also delicious.
The Powder Room is such a fun, unique take on a traditional coffee shop. And offers such a fun experience no matter the occasion. They also offer fun events, wine tastings, and the space is available for private events as well. It is definitely worth the road trip to visit. Also check out the Snob Shop, the consignment shop located below the Powder Room, and Trouvaille Home, an interior design shop, while in town! You may get lucky enough to meet Henry, Anne’s 8-year-old English Bulldog, while in the shop.
