I recently posted 5 things you should know about me on Instastories, and one of my facts is that growing up, my hair was naturally curly. As I got older, my hair texture changed, and it lost some of the natural curl that it had. I started straightening my hair more, but quickly realized that I have fine hair that is pretty thin by the front of my face. My hair stylist, Katy, is amazing and started chatting with me about hair extensions. I decided to share with you why I started wearing hair extensions and what my next step is with this process.
I started experimenting with hair extensions by using a Halo, which just fits over my head. Katy is seen here blowdrying the piece after she dyed it to match my hair color. The Halo does not add a ton of length, but definitely volume and thickness. I like that it was rather subtle, too. However, it is difficult to style my hair with any half or full up style because of the attachment. After deciding that I liked the added volume and thickness, Katy and I began talking about next steps.
Katy offers tape-in extensions, also from Halo, and she also offers sewn in extensions. I debated about both the tape-in and the sewn-in extensions considering the pros and cons of each. Despite my hair being fine, it does have some coarseness to it, and it frizzes relatively easy, so I had concerns about the texture difference and just how to style my hair. Katy gave me options and I have been practicing curling my hair so that I feel more comfortable styling my hair daily.
This is my hair without the extensions.
That said, my next step is to get the Halo tape-in extensions this Friday. I am getting three on each side by my face to help with thickness. I will be sharing more on this in my February coffee talk, so be sure to stay tuned to see how it goes.
And if you are in the Triangle looking for a new hair stylist, give Katy a shout. She has been an absolute dream to work with over the past couple of years. And if you are considering extensions but afraid to take the jump, schedule a consultation with Katy, or check out Sorella Rye, her business to try extensions.
P.S. Check out this post for why I get my hair professionally colored.
xx
