While David and I have made a point to invest in furniture and large pieces of decorations that will last for years, I do like to keep our space updated and fresh as well. Our most recent projects have included refreshing our front porch for spring and finalizing our living area. I’ve shared some ways that we keep our home cozy and welcoming, and I’m back today with five tips on keeping your home decor fresh and on a budget. Keep scrolling to see some of our favorite ways to refresh your home.
5 Affordable Ways to Refresh Your Home
Restyle your Shelves
Every so often, I’ll go through and rearrange the shelves in our home office and swap out pieces that we have styled vignettes around our house. It also gives me an opportunity to really wipe down our furniture as well. I’m a big fan of coffee table books and I find those to be useful in restyling in various places around our home as well.
Create a Reading Nook
Transition some of your favorite pieces to style a reading nook. Ours is the window seat in our home office, which is my favorite spot to curl up with a book or a magazine. With all the screen time I incur, it’s one of my favorite ways to unwind. Take an accent chair, small table, and a lamp to create a version of a nook in an unused corner. This would be a great spot to incorporate a rug or a piece of artwork to freshen up the area as well.
Use your Leftover Paint
To me, there is no better way to brighten up a space than to add a fresh coat of paint to your walls and trim work, especially baseboards and doorways. We tend to stick with grays and blues in our home, though recently I’ve been gravitating towards greens as well. We also paint our baseboards and door frames in Sherwin Williams Alabaster White once a year to keep those looking fresh and clean. Some of our favorite paint colors in our home are Sherwin Williams Repose Gray and Sherwin Williams Grizzle Gray.
Decorate with Greenery & Blooms
There are few things that make our space feel fresher than blooms and greenery from our yard. If I’ve been cooped up inside all day, one of my favorite ways to feel a bit fresher myself is to go cut some greenery or blooms from the plants around our yard. In the fall, finding colorful leaves or branches with interesting patterns make for unique displays in our home. I have quite a collection of vases from over the years, so I enjoy switching those out as well.
Rethink your Room Layout
A room may be completely transformed with a little rearranging. Bringing in artwork and pictures from other rooms, swapping pillows and throw blankets from other rooms, and even rearranging accent furniture can make a big impact. For bigger moving projects, consider hiring help, such as rearranging a bedroom or a living room.
