DG was born and raised in Buffalo and moved down to North Carolina for a teaching job in 2010. I love going to visit Buffalo in the summer because it is not too hot, not too humid, and it is a lot of fun for me to see the history of the area.
This summer when we went, we didn’t have a ton of stuff planned. I wanted to head into Lockport, NY because of the Erie Canal and some cute little shops I heard about. I also wanted to hit up the Niagara Wine Trail. Unfortunately, DG and I don’t have our passports yet, so we weren’t able to go into Canada this time. It’s on our list of things to do the next trip.
Here’s a recap in pictures of some of the fun stuff we did.
We visited four wineries on the Niagara Wine Trail.
I am a huge fan of the War of 1812 and Buffalo had a huge presence in that part of history, so I was really excited that one of the vineyards we went to was so proud of the area’s history.
How precious is this winery? The inside was just as cute, too.
All of the vineyards we visited were great, but my personal favorite was Vizcarra Vineyards. They have beer and wine which appeals to DG and I am a huge fan of their Erie Canal Catawba. Most of the vineyards had sweet wines, which aren’t my favorite. Vizcarra has a better variety of dry wines. If I was getting married in the Buffalo area, my wedding and reception would be held at Becker Farms! It’s adorable.
We also were able to hang out in Lockport for the day which was great. The last time we were in Buffalo, I went to the Erie Canal, but it wasn’t working because it was in December. This time, we were able to watch it in action and I hate to admit it, but I was ridiculously giddy.
If you’re ever in Lockport, check out Lock 34 Bar & Grill. The food is out of this world good and they have great drink specials.
Our last night in Buffalo, we had suite seats with DG’s friends and his parents at the Buffalo Bison’s game. It was a rainy evening but they had fireworks and a 4th of July tribute with the Buffalo Philharmonic.
All in all, it was a great trip. I need to do a better job remembering to take pictures. Buffalo is doing a lot of work down on its water front and there is a fantastic restaurant called the Liberty Hound on the dock.
Until next time, Buffalo!
