Good morning & Happy Friday! I hope that your month is going well. September has felt a bit disjointed because of Hurricane Dorian and it has been hard to watch the effects of flooding at Ocracoke, one of our favorite places in North Carolina. I will be sharing how to help the people in the months to come rebuild their lives in the quaint fishing village that our family adores so much. I am excited to share my coffee talk for September 2019, so grab a cup and join me in this month’s chat.

Coffee Talk: September 2019 Edition
I am so excited to go to Lizzo’s concert tonight! My friend, Kayd, introduced me to her back in May right before I visited her in Chicago and we’ve been obsessed since then. This article about her and Missy Elliott from the VMAs? I’m here for it. Lizzo’s message at the end? Her empowerment of people being truly and authentically themselves? It’s amazing. “Feel good as hell because you deserve to feel good as hell.”
I’ve shared a few articles in recent coffee talks about how to navigate conversations of fertility. When I read this post from Cathy, I knew it would go in this month’s coffee talk as well. Out of natural curiosity, people ask lots of questions that are not ill-intended, but can have triggering and hurtful effects on people going through infertility journeys. This article is a great way to be more emphatic and aware of how these comments and questions can impact individuals and couples going through this difficult time.
I recently received this beautiful dress from Abbey Glass (c/0) from their Fall 2019 collection. I love the print, the cut, and the fabric. Abbey Glass is hosting a trunk show at Charlotte’s in Raleigh today, so stop by and check out their fall and winter collection!
My very kind husband has taken up making my lunch every day for me.
have never been good at this, and with commuting so often with my job, I was often just turning through fast-food lines to get food to eat while driving between meetings or trainings. It has been a major bonus to have him prepare my lunch for me each day, but this article resonated with me. As bad as this is to admit, I miss eating out. I am ashamed to admit that, but I really do. Lo and behold, I started reading this article and really related to it. But, I won’t lie, we have saved a good chunk of change and I am not bloated, experiencing hanger headaches, and I am still able to eat on the go–which is a priority for my schedule right now.
I love surrounding myself with strong women who are go-getters and risk takers. My hair dresser is one of my favorite people and she is consistently leaving me with questions to consider. Recently, my nail tech left the salon I met her at to join Nail Yeah! in downtown Raleigh, where she is expressing her creativity. I don’t always get nail designs, but I’ve committed to one a month to share on my Instagram for #imfixintonails. Check out my most recent manicure and go see Khameo at Nail Yeah! You can book here.
Recently, I found this podcast, Women Rule by Politico. This week’s episode with Jamie Jones Miller, who talks about how she feels about being one of the youngest and one of the only women around the table for the top lobbyist for the Defense Department. Her message is to know your own super power, and earlier this summer, I started thinking about that and what my true strengths are that don’t necessarily show up on my resume. This is a great takeaway to consider what your super power is and how to use it to your advantage!
I am not one to be a huge fan of pumpkin spice lattes.
But this pumpkin foam cold brew from Starbucks? I can get behind that.
Anyone else ready to start decorating for fall? I think David and I are going to start this weekend and I am really looking forward to it! It’s my favorite season for our front porch… except I’m pretty sure I said that about spring and winter. Stay tuned and be sure to follow along on Instagram for more details.
I recently picked up this hairstyling tool thanks to a recommendation from a friend. I have really enjoyed using it and it has made my morning routine so much quicker!
Speaking of hair, I recently started using these two products. Despite the heat and humidity, my hair is not frizzing like it used to, which means, these are miracle workers! Olaplex No. 6 and Instagram as a combination are absolutely amazing!
