Last month when Angela, Glory, and I visited Winston-Salem, we had a delicious dinner at The Katharine Brasserie & Bar. I was already smitten with the way Katharine is spelled, but that it is also housed in the Kimpton Cardinal Hotel in downtown Winston-Salem. The restaurant is beautifully designed and you get a great feel for the hotel’s unique interior right from the entrance as well.
The Katharine is a French Brasserie & Bar and has a unique flair with the combination for Southern hospitality and touches on the menu combined with the Parisian influence. The restaurant, along with the hotel, is housed in the former R.J. Reynolds building in Winston-Salem, and it has been beautifully styled to capture French decor but with a modern touch.
The menu has a nice variety of comfort foods mixed with upscale flair and sources ingredients from local farms. I decided to go with the Saturday special of a New York Strip Steak because it comes from a farm in Rocky Mount, NC, which was about 30 minutes from where I grew up in eastern North Carolina. Angela ordered the grilled shrimp and macaroni and cheese, and Glory had the lobster gnocchi. Their cocktail and wine selection was amazing, and Angela had a delicious mocktail. We finished our meal with the best slice of chocolate cake. Perhaps my favorite part of the night was when the chef came over to see how our meal was and applauded that I finished the 12 oz. steak on my own. What can I say? I’m really good at food, y’all.
For dinner, I wore this J. Crew striped dress that I am completely obsessed with and my favorite booties for the season.
If you are visiting Winston-Salem, I highly recommend the Katharine for dinner. It was one of the best meals I have had in a while. The serve was incredibly knowledgable about the menu and offered us great suggestions, not just on food, but also on wine and cocktails (or mocktails for Angela). P.S. See my experience exploring the Graylyn Estate in Winston-Salem here.
I hope you are having a great Wednesday! The next three days are incredibly busy and I am totally working for the weekend.
xx
Every restaurant you eat at looks so delicious and this one is no exception!
