I’ve been coloring my hair for 10 years now.  Ten whole years.  The first time I colored my hair was in college when my roommate dyed my hair dark brown.  I loved how hair color could brighten my complexion and change my look.  My roommate and I would pick out boxes of hair dye at the local drugstore and come back to the apartment and color each other’s hair for our girls’ nights.  I started getting adventurous and tried my hand at dying my own hair.  It was a disaster and while  I never lost hair the process, but I did dye my face once.  I accidentally left a thumbprint right under my right eye in black hair dye, and it wouldn’t come off for about 3 weeks.  So, for three weeks, I walked around with a black thumb print under my right eye.  Seriously.  It was then that I decided I should get my hair professionally colored and I haven’t looked back.  I love seeing Katy at Salon Lofts in North Raleigh for a fresh new color and cut.  Here are 7 benefits to getting your hair colored by a professional.
You know you’ll get what you want.
I generally say I want to go lighter or dark, more depth, etc, and go from there. Â I’ve rarely been disappointed when doing this. Â I do use Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration, but I still try to go with colors that I feel brighten my complexion the best. Â I also trust Katy’s professional opinion and lean on her for changing dimension.
It’s easier to change your look when it is professional grade color.
Or if you don’t get the color you want, it can still be fixed.  There was one time where I tried out a new hair stylist and I told him that my hair is naturally blondish brown and gets really light around my face.  I was going auburn, and he didn’t really heed my warning about how light my hair was.  I looked exactly like Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus.  I was able to go back in and get my color fixed easily without a lot of embarrassment.
Professional stylists can control tones and dimension with professional color.
I love when I can go in to my stylist and tell her that I need tone my color down, and she mixes up a little concoction, puts it on there, and boom! Â It’s no longer brassy or looking over processed.
It’s less messy.
I mean, I ruined a lot of towels, shower curtains, and even dignity when I had to walk around explaining the black thumb print thing.
No helmet hair color.
I think this is the thing that stands out the most for me. Â I like the depth that a professional color can give!
You can rebalance your hair after a color service with a chemistry system.
Balancing out your hair’s pH after a color process is an important step in maintaining good scalp and hair health.
You get a scalp massage and blow out after.
I mean, this is a no-brainer. Â This is my favorite part! Â I wish I could have someone else wash and style my hair every day.
There you have it. Â There are my reasons for why I get my hair professionally colored, and why you should too! Â If you live in the Raleigh-Durham area, check out Katy at Salon Lofts.. Â She is the real deal and won’t steer you in the wrong direction!

When the time comes that I get my hair colored there is no doubt I will go the professional route!! Your hair looks great girl! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston
I cannot wait to start dying my hair. I’m dark dark brown and tried to go blonde in college. My little cousin asked why I dyed my hair grey. After that I said I wouldn’t do it again until I went grey (which they are starting to pile up now)!
Where are your slouchy booties from? So cute!! And your hair does look amazing. I think dimension can be so hard to get with a dye and yours is perfect!!
Your hair color looks great! I’m super lucky that I have my hair stylist living right beside me (even though she always says she’s too busy to do my hair… eye roll emoji)
You hair always looks great! It’s so important to have a good colorist and stylist. I have never colored my own hair and never will. My hair is just too difficult as my hair is naturally two colors. It’s so crazy. I have been going to the same girl for 10 years as well, I would be so lost without her.
You look gorgeous! I get my hair professionally colored, and I will never go back to doing it myself.
