When DG and I started talking about where we wanted to get away for the holidays, I immediately tossed out New Orleans. This Southern gem has been on my list of places to visit for quite sometime (proof here and here). We always try to stay in boutique hotels with unique features and history, and when I saw Le Pavillon was part of Historic Hotels of America and the history of Le Pavillon, I knew it had to be a good one. Y’all, DG and I were totally impressed! I am so excited to share about our three night stay at Le Pavillon and all that the hotel offers.
Le Pavillon Hotel – History
I am a huge history nerd, and both my undergrad and my masters program are in history, so I really love staying in hotels with a story. Le Pavillon is full of them! We loved touring the hotel with Amanda, the sales manager at the hotel, and learning more about the stories. The plot of land that the hotel is on was a private residence on a canal, that is now Poydras Street. It was part of a railroad depot, theatre, and then converted into a grand hotel in 1907.
The elegance of the hotel is superior and the 10 Czechoslovakian chandeliers, marble floors, Italian columns, marble railings from the Grand Hotel in Paris, and period artwork make this an absolute stunning escape. When we drove up to the hotel, DG said “of course this is the place you found.”
My other favorite part of this hotel is its paranormal activity. I happened upon this article after we booked our stay, and I cannot lie to y’all, I was super optimistic that we would run into one. After all, there are five proven spirits in the hotel! While DG and I did not encounter one ourselves, we definitely enjoyed learning more and hearing the experiences of the staff. DG made it a point to ask the security officer at night to share his paranormal experiences in the city and, seeing as he was a New Orleans native, we really loved hearing all of his tales!  Want to know which floors are particularly eery? Shoot me an email!
Le Pavillon Hotel – Accommodations
There are 226 rooms in Le Pavillon and there are 7 suites with themes unique to New Orleans. I am particularly fond of hotels that provide their guests with free Wi-Fi, so that is a huge bonus for Le Pavillon. Their beds and pillows are so comfortable after a long day of checking out the city, and the rooms have beautiful schemes. I mean, gold and silver? Duh.
Amanda took us into two of the suites, and one is popular with brides, but also with Stevie Wonder, where he has played the piano when staying at the Le Pavillon.
Each room comes with a Keurig and a variety of K-cups. This makes for a leisurely way of waking up. I would have a cup of coffee and plan our day before beginning to get ready without having to head downstairs. This is a huge bonus for me when traveling.
Le Pavillon Hotel – Amenities & Location
My favorite touch of Le Pavillon are the late night snacks served in the Grand Lobby. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are served with hot chocolate or cold milk every night. The story behind the PB & Js being served is quite adorable, and has been a tradition since 1988. DG and I took full advantage of this each evening on our way to the room. Pro tip: get there early, because it is a madhouse.
Le Pavillon was a short 20 minute ride from the airport, and a quick ten minute walk to the French Quarter and Bourbon Street. It was a short walk and streetcar ride from Tulane University, the Garden District, and Audubon Park and Zoo. I’ll be sharing our itinerary next week, so stay tuned for more and how we got around.
There is also a work out facility and beautiful rooftop pool and deck. DG & I had high hopes of the weather being warm enough for us to sit on the rooftop for a couple of hours. While it was pretty chilly, we were still able to check out the amazing views of the city.
Food
DG and I arrived at Le Pavillon after our flight and had dinner and cocktails at Le Gallery Bar & Loungein the hotel. This room features some of the incredible art work and Czechoslovakian candeliers. Also, the mahogany bar was made in Chicago in 1880 and is quite stunning. DG & I love all the historical touches and repurposing of antiques in the hotel. We enjoyed unwinding after our flight over a Cajun chicken sandwich and a fried oyster club.
For breakfast, The Crystal Room offers a nice buffet and omelette bar. I had an omelette with shrimp, bacon, cheese, and jalapenos and it was delicious! My favorite part of the decoration in the Crystal Room is the painting of the Belle of New Orleans. This painting was sold to the hotel by the family under three conditions: she never leaves New Orleans, she’s the only female portrait to hang in the room, and her (and her family’s) identity must never been revealed. Le Pavillon used this portrait on its key cards and in its promotional branding.
DG and I truly loved the experience, history, and elegance of Le Pavillon Hotel. I am already daydreaming of our next trip back when we can lounge around the rooftop pool.  If you are planning a trip to New Orleans, DG & I both highly recommend staying here for Southern hospitality and history at its finest.
Be sure to check back next week to see our travel guide.
