A few years ago, I stayed at The Blockade Runner Beach Resort in Wrightsville Beach and had such a lovely experience for an early winter weekend. As luck would have it, it was quite a chilly, rainy weekend, so Glory and I ventured back down to take advantage of the property’s amenities on a beautiful, sunny, warm day. One of my favorite aspects of this Wrightsville Beach, NC property is all that there is to do right on-site, including the spectacular ocean views. Where to Stay in Wrightsville Beach: The Blockade Runner Resort
There is something for everyone at the Blockade Runner, whether you prefer the beach, poolside seating, a garden for reading or yoga, learning how to paddle board in the sound, or taking a sunset cruise. It is truly a lovely experience at this classic landmark. And is the perfect place for a getaway, whether you are looking for a family-friendly option, a girls’ weekend, or a couples’ spot. The Blockade Runner Resort – Amenities
There are a variety of room options to choose from. Including whether you prefer a harbor view or a view of the Atlantic Ocean. All rooms feature casually elegant decor and beautiful views of the island. Each room includes a mini-fridge, a Keurig, and my personal favorite hotel amenity, cozy robes. If you are interested in a larger rental space, there is a cottage available for rent that has 13 bedrooms. More details on that are available here. There is also a first-floor garden apartment with its own private oceanfront entrance. And easy access to the gardens and beach. The Blockade Runner Resort – Accommodations
If you opt to spend some time on the beach, there is a seasonal full-service experience including beach chairs, umbrellas, plus food and beverage service. If you prefer to hang out poolside, there are cabanas available for rent, a gorgeous poolside bar and restaurant, and seaside gardens. The seaside gardens offer fire pits, hammocks, and lawn games. The sound side harbor offers kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, canoes, sailing, fishing, and scenic cruises. A personal favorite experience of mine is the sunset harbor cruise. I am a big fan of their gardens for a lazy afternoon laying in a hammock reading and enjoying a cold beverage from the cocktail bar. The beach access is unmatched and offers a pretty set up with the iconic blue umbrellas and matching beach loungers.
The Blockade Runner Resort – Dining
The on-site restaurant, EAST Oceanfront Dining, offers a beautiful garden setting. They host a delicious Sunday Jazz brunch that is New Orleans-inspired (seen here) and a delicious lunch and dinner menu. You simply cannot go wrong with a spring salad with grilled chicken or a blue crab cake. I will also never turn down a good order of fries and a crab cake sammie. It is one of my go-to orders on the North Carolina coast. For dinner, the low-country crab bisque, the fresh catch with that fennel salad, and the NC tuna are all delicious dining options!
There is also dining available at Sea Escape Pool Bar which is a great option if you opt to spend the day by the pool or want to come off the beach and dine in the shade by the gardens.
