When I consider my favorite cities in North Carolina, Greensboro consistently ranks as one of the top on my list. There are so many delicious restaurants, outdoor activities, excellent art, and history, plus interesting shops, architecture, and breweries. If you’re staying overnight, consider a stay at the O.Henry Hotel, near the Friendly Shopping Center. It is also a great spot to enjoy jazz music in the social lounge, local artwork, and afternoon tea. Keep scrolling to see our experience at this Greensboro gem.

A Night at the O.Henry Hotel in Greensboro, NC
This boutique hotel is named after the original O.Henry Hotel, which was the first modern hotel in Greensboro, built in 1919. Â The O.Henry is named after William Sydney Porter, whose pen name was O. Henry, the author of The Gift of the Magi, The Last Leaf, Of Cabbages and Kings, and The Ransom of Red Chief. Read more about the namesake of the original hotel here.
While the original hotel was razed in 1979, the current O.Henry Hotel is a  beautiful Craftsman-style hotel with classic North Carolina red brick, pine, and cast granite that boasts meticulous attention to detail. It is a gorgeous space with a community feel from Thursday night jazz nights to their afternoon tea to the beautiful gardens. The O.Henry is also employee-owned, which makes it one of the few hotels and restaurants in the US like this. See their sister hotel, Proximity Hotel here and here.
Accommodations – O.Henry Hotel
We stayed in a king room, furnished with original art, and beautiful natural lighting. There is a separate sitting area and a separate bath with double vanities and a dressing room. Along with beautiful natural lighting, a large soaking tub, AVEDA bath products, high-speed WIFI, and a soaking tub. I also loved the beautiful artwork on the ceiling. It was such a beautiful way to wake up in the morning.
Be sure to check out their offers because they have some great options! While we were there, we had one of their romance packages that included a $50 dining credit to Green Valley Grill and breakfast in bed the following morning. Other packages of interest is the Jazz Series Package or Elegant Escape.

Amenities – O.Henry Hotel
The O.Henry Hotel offers coffee & tea brew stations in every room featuring Counter Culture Coffee and Harney & Sons Teas. There is room service featuring full menus from the very popular Green Spring Valley restaurant. There is also an on-site fitness center, outdoor pool, garden area, and an artist-in-residence.

Then there are jazz nights in the social lounge on Thursday evenings from 6:00-9:00, which features full bar access and small plate offerings. Taking tea in the social lobby has become a Greensboro tradition. You will definitely want to make reservations for that!

I have stayed at the O.Henry solo before and ordered the Darn Good Burger for room service dinner. On our most recent stay, David and I got breakfast in bed and it was an absolute delight!

The O.Henry Hotel is a beautiful spot in Greensboro and offers a wide variety of things to do without having to leave the hotel. We thorough enjoyed being able to check in to our room and then head down to jazz music before making our reservation at Green Spring Valley and not rushing around town on the evening of our arrival. It is a truly delightful stay!

Be sure to book your stay at the O.Henry Hotel on your next visit to Greensboro!
