After DG and I returned from our honeymoon in 2014, I caught the travel bug. When I rebranded, I wanted to focus on exploring parts of North Carolina and sharing travel guides here. DG and I also wanted to start traveling more to cities in the United States. We had a lovely timeduring our year of travel in 2017 and I loved reliving our travels with this 2017 travel recap post (here is 2016).
2017, Our Year of Travel: North Carolina
Kinston: Home of Vivian Howard’s Chef and the Farmer and The Boiler Room, Kinston has Southern charm and a gorgeous boutique hotel. It is absolutely worth the trip to eat at one of her restaurants, sample Mother Earth brews, and enjoy a walk around the Neuse River.
Halifax County: My hometown is in Halifax County, and I am so proud to say that there is a delicious farm to fork restaurant in the county now. There are also quaint antique shops and great outdoor activity options.
Bald Head Island: For our spring break, DG and I took a couple of days and headed to Bald Head Island. Neither of us had been, and we were there for the first weekend of tourist season. We are hoping to get back there for vacation soon.
Fearrington House Inn: Angela and I had a great time on our double date staycation with our husbands in the spring at Fearrington. We had a lovely dinner at Roost and afternoon tea at Fearrington House Restaurant.
Durham: I loved writing this travel guide for Durham. Durham is one of my favorite cities, and had the best time collecting experiences for this. Even though this post is summer themed, most of these are appropriate year round.
Raleigh: DG and I are so glad we get to call Raleigh home, so I decided to write an updated what to do in Raleigh post each year. If you’re looking for an ultimate girls’ day, check out this post. And for a great place to stay? Check out Renaissance Raleigh in North Hills.
Winston-Salem: Angela, Glory, and I headed to Winston-Salem for a girls’ weekend. We stayed at the beautiful Graylyn Estate and had such an amazing time. I went back a few weeks later with my girl friends to see the exhibit at the Reynolda House.
Le Méridien Hotel: For DG’s 33rd birthday, we went to Charlotte to have dinner at Evoke and to stay at Le Méridien before going to the Bills v. Panthers game. It was such a fun location and we will definitely be staying here again the next time we are in Charlotte.
Our Year of Travel: Out of State
Roadtrip from Raleigh to D.C.: I had the best time roadtripping to Washington, D.C. with Angela, Danielle, and Glory for a The Blog Societies workshop. We made an overnight stop in Richmond to stay at Linden Row Inn and dine at Max’s on Broad. For our time in D.C., we stayed at the gorgeous Kimpton Glover Park Hotel and had dinner at Casolare.
Hotel Henry, Buffalo New York: DG and I had the best time at the Hotel Henry in Buffalo. This renovated building is absolutely stunning. I asked my girlfriends to come explore with me as well. It is a great space and I am looking forward to checking it out again when we head back to Buffalo.
Chicago: I headed back to Chicago for the Blog Societies conference where I roomed with Tilleyand Kristina. I loved our experience, but I wish that we had more time to explore one of my favorite cities.
Nashville: DG and I tried to get to Nashville literally two times (with flights booked and all) before we finally got there. We had a great time in the city and would highly recommend!
Our next trip is to New Orleans, and I cannot wait to share that guide with you in 2018.
I hope you are having a lovely week!
