One of my favorite parts of our house is having a front porch. In our first house, we had a stoop, and it was pretty difficult to decorate because it was directly exposed to the elements. Now, having this L-shaped front porch, there is so much space, we have had a fun time decorating. Our porch is still a work in progress, but I was excited to start decorating, especially when spring hit. So here are some front porch ideas for spring.
Front Porch Ideas for Spring:
I have long been a fan of ferns, so we potted ferns both on our front porch and at the base. I used larger ones to fill the space on our porch on either side of the black bench that I picked up from Bass House Antiques in Halifax, NC. I searched high and low in Wake County for a black deacon’s bench for our front porch, and was so excited when I found the perfect one in the cutest shop in eastern NC. I added a few outdoor throw pillows from Target to the bench.

To tie in the green pillows from the bench, I added these two Target outdoor throw pillows to our two white rocking chairs. I will be honest and tell you I did not start out with the intention of using only black, green, and white, but I have actually loved that color scheme.
On the end of the porch, we are going to set up a little area for an outdoor dog bed for Winston & Gizmo. DG also built me a swing that we are currently trying to find a cushion for. The swing is custom built, so we’re going to have to get a custom made cushion. I think I am going to add a rug there, and I am leaning towards this one.
I still have my layered mats with this one and this welcome mat from Magnolia at our front door. I also have a potted hydrangea by the front door, but alternate moving it to the edge of the railing by the stairs for sunlight and rain. It’s a bit hard to see in the photo, but I love this magnolia wreath on our front door.
I bought these battery powered lanterns for the stairs. I also potted red geraniums, lavender, rosemary, and parsley in my herb planters. Last night, we added a huge citronella plant by our rocking chairs and updated our window boxes with sweet potato vine and impatients. I love this galvanized metal watering can for keeping our plants hydrated. DG & I are notorious for planting a lot and not doing a great job watering, so keeping the watering can right by the plants has done a great job of holding us accountable.
I love this lantern at our entry way. It was one of my favorite updates early on in our move. We are adding ceiling fans to the porch so we can enjoy being outside in the evenings now that the humidity is increasing. We’ll be installing this one next week.
I hope you’ll continue to follow along on Instastories and here as I post updates of our home. More updates include our mudroom and our reclaimed wood wall from my grandparents’ farm.
