Y’all. Charleston is my everything. I would be lying if I didn’t tell you part of my motive was to get DG to fall in love with it too so we could move there. It was such a nice little getaway for us to celebrate our anniversary. I have a little something special planned next week as a review, so for now, here is a recap using pictures from my iPhone.
When we arrived, we had lunch at Butcher and Bee and OMG. It is worth all the hype. It’s so cool on the inside and the food is deeeeeeee-licious. If you’re heading to Charleston soon, GO THERE.
Get a bottle of wine from The Daily and then order the burger. I don’t eat red meat but holy wow, I would for that burger. I had the turkey sandwich with bacon and it was also out-of-this-world good. I won extra wife of the year points because my artist husband immediately recognized the Shepard Fairey mural painted on the building that runs beside the restaurant. More on this next week.
After our lunch at Butcher and Bee, we went to city market and tried to get to Pearlz, but they weren’t open yet. We went to another establishment on Bay Street that shall remain nameless, and we were not impressed. We went and walked around on the waterfront before checking in at Wentworth Mansion. I am completely in love with the space. It is gorgeous with great staff and complimentary features. DG and I both highly recommend!
If you follow me on Instagram, you learned that I have a thing with good floors. The Wentworth was not short on this at all. Pictured in the middle photo was my wine from the wine and hor d’oeuvre hour.
For dinner on our first night, we headed to Magnolia’s. I’ve mentioned before that DG is a picky eater, and one of the things he doesn’t eat is seafood, so I had to be selective in my restaurant choices. We ordered pimiento cheese for an appetizer and we both got fried chicken and loved it! Side note: my phone died and DG took these pictures. If you’ve been reading for a while, you know this is a big deal, because he usually photo bombs my food pictures. After dinner, we headed up to Vendue Inn rooftop bar for a drink before heading back to relax. We both highly recommend it. Since I had last been, the Vendue Inn has taken on a more artistic flair, which DG liked.
Saturday morning, we headed out to Daniel Island for the Clash of the Carolinas soccer game. Then we headed over to Mt. Pleasant to try Tavern and Table. I ordered the T&T Cheese Burger (I was craving one after DG’s at Butcher and Bee) and DG got the Korean Fried Chicken Wings. It’s a really gorgeous space on the inside, but not our favorite meal. We got to cross the Ravenel bridge, which was DG’s only request fo the entire weekend. Then, we headed to Pearlz for a drink, including my favorite oyster shooter.
DG and I scraped our original dinner plans for pizza at the Social. We also ordered an appetizer of housemade chips and they were delicious. We were drained by the sun, so a night at Social was exactly what we needed to relax.
One of our favorite parts to staying at Wentworth Mansion was having breakfast at Circa 1886. I ordered the breakfast frittata with spinach, tomato, and Parmesan cheese twice. The other morning I had shrimp and grits, and OMG. I highly recommend eating here if you come to Charleston.
Sunday was our actual anniversary and we woke up, had breakfast at Circa 1886, and we headed out. We walked through King Street to Marion Square and then made our way to Emanuel AME Church. It was incredibly important to me to pay our respects to the victims of the shooting. I can’t describe how emotional the outpouring of love and support was to witness, but it was beautiful to see how the city has rallied after such a tragedy.
We had lunch at Hominy Grill, which was one of my biggest requests for the weekend. I’ve always wanted to eat there, but have never been able to get in without a ridiculous wait. I ordered the fried green tomato BLT and it was the best I’ve ever had. We headed back to King Street and I popped in to Moon and Lola to see their gorgeous gallery wall. DG and I headed back to the Wentworth to open our gifts.
Our last night in Charleston, we walked to dinner so DG could see a little more of the city’s architecture and scenery, like that driveway. We headed to Husk to have a pre-dinner cocktail and appetizer. DG was so impressed with their service, that he wanted to cancel our dinner reservation at Poogan’s Porch. Poogan’s is my favorite restarant in Charleston, though, and we’re both glad we didn’t change our plans. We were greeted with champagne, which was totally a surprise. I was a little stuffed from our appetizer, so I ordered she crab soup and the chopped salad. DG got the fried chicken (again), and omg. It was all so good. We only snapped one picture together the whole weekend and it was when we were waiting for our uber.
We headed back on Monday, but it was a great, relaxing time with lots of good food.

We went to Charleston for our anniversary weekend too! We ate at a place near the market that too shall remain nameless, it wasn't that great! We had dinner reservations at a spot over on Shem Creek called Water's Edge – delicious! We wanted to try Hominy Grill, but ran out of time! Poogan's Porch is on my "to do" list though! Pat and I both love seafood, so finding places to eat isn't so hard. I may have to put the Butcher and the Bee on our list! He loves that damn bridge too (I hate bridges), so he took me to the waterfront park that is on the Mt.Pleasant side. Its beautiful and at 9am when we arrived, so peaceful! It goes under the new bridge, on some of the footings of the old bridge!
Looks amazing there!! All the food looks delish! What an amazing opportunity to pay your respects to the shooting victims. Such a tragedy.
Glad you had such a good time here!
I mean… to have tagged along with y'all would have been heavenly! Glad you had such a wonderful, delicious anniversary trip, girl. That's so awesome you had a chance to stop by Emanuel AME also. xx
