Last year, I shared our master bedroom inspiration last year around this time, and it was a really great post for David and I to reflect on as we began making plans to update our space. We are ready to begin work in the home office, so I wanted to share some of our modern home office ideas and inspiration. My phone is full of screenshots that I snap on Pinterest and Instagram when I find ideas that we’d like to make our own, so it’s great to have a space to add these ideas for reflection.
When David & I first bought this house, I made a list of all the items that we wanted to update. Immediately in the office, I wanted to add built-ins to the space. It’s a great space, but rather oddly shaped, and does not have any storage in the room, so we both agreed adding built-ins would eliminate the need to set up a bunch of other small organizational pieces of furniture. Here are some of my favorite built in ideas:

I love the different details on the cabinets, and the colors are really interesting. Our office is painted Sherwin Williams Repose Gray, which is the color present through all of our rooms except our master bedroom and master bathroom. The office has French doors, and I painted those Annie Sloan Duck Egg, which is a blue color, so I am leaning towards a dark gray or blue for the builtins.
We have these two chairs, this desk, this desk lamp, this floor lamp, and newly built shelves over my desk. We also incorporate our art prints from different places we’ve traveled in this space, so I am really wanting a large map for the back wall behind the two chairs. I really loved this one because it was framed on tobacco sticks, which would flow with our other home decor, including our dining room.
I also mentioned that we are leaning towards updating our home office flooring with this floor. Originally, I wanted to do a herringbone floor, but unfortunately, because of the odd shape of the room, it isn’t something that we would be able to pull off. I think this flooring is still interesting, and I will add a new Rifle Paper Co. rug to the decor.
Stay tuned! Our goal is to have this home office ready this summer, if not sooner.
