A Date Night at the North Carolina Museum of Art

Good morning, friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I am back with a true weekending post and I can’t believe how long it has been! Friday, with date night at the North Carolina Museum of Art, & Saturday with friends, was all fun and Sunday was spent nursing what I think was a 24 hour stomach bug. I’m hoping it doesn’t last longer than that, but I’m glad I was able to squeeze in some fun prior to that.

Friday night, DG and I were invited to tour the North Carolina Museum of Art to see their Rolling Sculpture Exhibit. I had always wanted to attend the museum on a Friday night because it offers live jazz music, small plates, and cocktails. And I love the art deco period and the automobiles of the 1930s and 1940s are absolutely impressive. There is even an awesome timeline at the beginning of the exhibit that links the time, literature, historical events, and automobile designs with visuals. Janis escorted us around and gave us extra tidbits on the cars, and I have to say it made the evening even more enjoyable to hear some of these gems! Take a look at some of these automobiles. They truly are rolling sculptures!

I love how the exhibit includes images of skyscapers and skylines from the time period. It really gives it a realistic feel!

Fun fact is that these cars and motorcycles can all still be driven, with the exception of the Bugatti. The Bugatti is really the showstopper in the exhibit. Each wheel costs $10K, and when this car was going through restoration, they stopped counting at 70,000 hours. But man is it a beauty!

We went to the permanent exhibit as well during our tour. Here are a few of my favorite pieces:

And I couldn’t keep up with DG through these exhibits. He was like a kid in a candy store. I always appreciate his knowledge of art and the information throws out is impressive. Side note: DG is an art teacher and does a lot of painting, but has recently began dabbling in wood working.

The outdoor park is newly renovated, and we’ll be going back soon with the boys to explore that portion. But how pretty is this reflecting pool with the glass? P.S. this outfit will be on the blog tomorrow!

Saturday, I woke up for barre, and then I headed to the new Parlor Dry Bar in Cary with a few of my favorite barre friends. We grabbed brunch after at Toast and I’m so glad I got to spend time with them. I have been feeling like I haven’t been seeing friends as much because of work and obligations, so a little girl time was good for the soul. I blew off some work and while I’ll be playing catch-up this week, it was totally worth it! Also, order the crab rolls from Toast. Definitely delicious!That afternoon, I met up with Courtney and Nour for a seriously fun outfit shoot despite the chilly, windy weather. Stay tuned for these two looks on our blogs in the coming weeks.

Saturday evening, DG and I had dinner with friends and it was again a pleasant break to catch up with them!

And I love the way our fall stoop is looking right now.

So, moral of the story. If you live in North Carolina, you have until January to catch the Rolling Sculpture exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Art and I definitely recommend going on a Friday night for appetizers, wine, and jazz music on top of taking in the exhibit. DG and I are already planning our next trip back!
