Ever since I visited Buffalo for the first time 7 years ago, I have been enamoured with the H. H. Richardson building. This building was originally built in the 1870s as the Buffalo State Asylum for the Insane and is an example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. Richardson worked with Frederick Law Olmstead, who most notably designed Central Park, to create almost 100 acres on the grounds for the patients to utilize as part of their treatment. This building has been renovated into the beautiful, chic Hotel Henry Urban Resort & Conference Center with tasteful modern flairs while still keeping the original architectural designs in tact.
Hotel Henry Urban Resort – Amenities
The location of Hotel Henry Urban Resort is the best for exploring all that Elmwood Village, Delaware Park, also designed by Olmstead, and the Buffalo History Museum and Albright-Knox Art Gallery have the offer. It’s also a short ride away from the canal. There is a lot to explore on the 42 acres that Hotel Henry is situated on as well. Also, say hello to DG’s alma mater, Buffalo State College, that backs up to the grounds of Hotel Henry.
P.S. Check out 48 hours in Buffalo, places to eat, and things to do.
Hotel Henry Urban Resort – Accommodations
These 14 foot windows and 21 foot ceilings make these rooms so bright and airy. I absolutely adore the clean lines, the functional surfaces, and the convenient space for storage. The bed and pillows were super comfortable and I loved the fabric on the walls. Also, the artwork found at the Hotel Henry Urban Resort is all supplied by local artists, which is a nice touch.
Hotel Henry Urban Resort – Dining
I’m disappointed to say that we did not get a chance to eat at 100 Acres during this stay, but I was totally obsessed with the designs of the restaurant. The corbels, the light fixtures, and the table and chair combos were absolutely breathtaking. There are several sitting areas and nooks that are perfect for enjoying a glass of wine with girl talk. The balcony is also a favorite spot for happy hour.
I can’t recommend a stay at the Hotel Henry Urban Resort & Conference Center enough. The modern decor & spacious accommodations are worth experiencing. Be sure to check back for two more parts in this series in the coming weeks to see more of what this space has to offer!
