When David and I bought this house, one of my major projects I wanted to tackle was adding built-ins to our home office space. I view a home office as a space for inspiration, to be productive, while also being comfortable enough to relax at the end of the day with David and the boys. While I love having an office space, the room we had lacked storage, so I thought a nice addition would be built-ins. Here is the first part of how we updated our home office with built-ins.

DIY Home Office Built Ins Step by Step Tutorial:
Step 1: David started by taking the carpet up and removing the baseboards around the area where he building the built-ins. He really didn’t measure it out, but went based off of how comfortably the chairs would fit in the space. We saved a bit of money on the flooring by doing that.
Step 2: Next, he started framing the built-ins. He also re-routed the register for the air vent.
Step 3: He added the supports for the window seat, then finished that entire section.
Step 4: Once he finished the window seat portion, he moved on to the actual built-ins, where he finished framing those.
Step 5: He then started adding in the shelves to the bottom of the built-ins and the sides to the exposed shelves.
Step 6: Then, he added sliding doors to the bottom portions of the cabinets and detailing around the built-ins.
Step 7: My favorite part was him pulling up the carpet that was long overdue to be replaced, and adding doggo-friendly Pergo flooring.
Step 8: Next, we painted the ceiling, built-ins, and trim white, while opting for Sherwin Williams’ Grizzle Gray for our walls.
Step 9: Lastly, we started styling the room. We still have a few things to finish up, including hanging the crown molding, plus painting the new base boards and crown molding. However, I am so pleased with how this space turned out. Once all the painting is done, I’ll put my finishing touches on the built-in shelves.
