One of the reasons David and I bought this home was because we saw an opportunity to really make our mark on it to match our personality. We have been here for almost four years now, and now that we’re almost a year into the global pandemic that forced us to be at home, I have been so grateful that we’ve found ways to make our home feel special and cozy. Keep scrolling for some of our favorite ideas on how to make your home cozy and the best home items.

How to Make your Home Cozy: 10 Easy Ways
Invest in Quality Bed Linens

My favorite sheets and bed linens in general are these from Brooklinen. I invested in a set, including the duvet cover, last year right before the pandemic set in. I haven’t looked back ever since. Another favorite is this set from Target.
Brighten Up with Plants

I just adore indoor plants and our fiddle leaf figs are my prized beauties in our home. I’ve shared more of my favorite indoor plant favorites here and highly recommend in rooms around the house for air purity!
Layer Lighting

David and I have invested in Phillips Hue lightbulbs so we can set timers and can control the brightness as we’d like. A bonus of these lightbulbs are they are compatible with Alexa, Google Home, and has an app to control the lighting. I am a big believer in layering lighting for various moods and also support the use of candles. We have several battery operated candles and you know I’m a huge fan of scented candles, too!
Add Artwork and Photos

I’m a big fan of art prints and artwork that David creates. In recent months, David has created gallery walls to include pictures from our travels and from around our house. Some of my favorite places to find art prints are Rifle Paper Co., A Thing Created, and seasonal photos like these for winter here. Allie Provost has gorgeous photos for gallery walls, too! We’ve also installed a little bit of wall paper in small nooks around the house.
Bring in Elements of Comfort with Rugs

Our home is mostly hardwood flooring, so we have brought in a lot of rugs into the space. My personal favorite options are Ruggables since we have the boys, who are quite messy at times, especially with all the rain as of recent.
Keep Clutter at Bay

This is sometimes the hardest one for me because I a clutterer by nature. However, I am so much calmer with more clarity when I’ve decluttered the house. So, I am trying to be better about purging areas of our house that get more cluttered and focusing on quality over quantity.
The More Throws and Pillows, the Better

Throw pillows and blankets are my favorite way to make our home comfy and cozy.
Find Signature Scents

I wish I could commit to just one fragrance to be our signature scent; however, I really enjoy changing up scents based on the seasons. So, for me, it’s finding signature scents each season that I look forward to burning. Check out some of my favorite quarantine home scents here.
Turn your Bathroom into a Spa

My love of self-care runs deep and this tub tray that David made me to hold my favorite products has been a fun addition. We also updated our guest bathroom, too. Check out that tutorial here.
Pick Calming Color Palettes

My favorite paint color for our home is Sherwin Williams Repose Gray but in our bedroom we opted for Sherwin Williams Grizzle Gray. I have loved this color for our bedroom, which gets great natural light. Plus, I always love white and gray together.
